Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a creative and dynamic
professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as the
Coordinator of Monograph and Automated Acquisitions. This is an
academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities
for scholarly activities and/or professional service to meet both the
Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for promotion. The
appointment may be as a tenure-track/tenured position or a clinical
(non-tenure track) position, depending on the successful candidate’s
professional interest, scholarship engagement, and professional
service.
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries through the Director of Collection
Development and Acquisitions Services and Associate Dean for
Information Services, the Coordinator of Monograph and Automated
Acquisitions is responsible for the planning, managing, supervising,
and evaluating all one-time acquisitions in all formats. With a
patron-centric philosophy and a budget of $2.1 million dollars for
one-time purchases, the unit acquires materials from all over the
world both in print and electronic format.
Responsibilities include: supervises 5 FTE staff and 3-5 student
workers who coordinate with other librarians and library units
involved in making the Libraries’ resources available to its patrons;
administers Voyager/FOLIO’s Acquisitions applications and requires the
monitoring and enhancement of each fiscal year’s ledger, evaluating
budget expenditures, quality control of invoices and vendors records,
as well as file management to and from vendors in the form of EDI
invoicing and MARC record transfers; manages operational activities
related to e-books and cataloging outsourcing to ensure that
bibliographic records are accessible in the online public catalog;
troubleshoots access and upgrade issues related to ebooks; provides
leadership and manages change in an evolving technical services
environment; supports and promotes the Libraries’ and Texas A&M
University’s shared vision and values; engages in professional service
and research (if applicable) activities at a level consistent with
rank and progress toward promotion and tenure (if applicable).
Required Qualifications:
· American Library Association (ALA)-accredited Master’s
degree (or international equivalent)
· At least 2 years of supervisory experience
· Demonstrated knowledge of approval plans and other types of
academic library business models
· Demonstrated evidence of detail-oriented and organization skills
· Familiarity with integrated library system functions for
technical services
· Experience managing projects or operational activities
· Demonstrated ability to work productively, independently,
and collaboratively
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills complemented
by the ability to take initiative
· Demonstrated commitment to providing customer service
· Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a
diverse population
Desired Qualifications:
· Awareness of the open source Library Management System FOLIO
· Demonstrated experience in negotiating with vendors and publishers
· Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to contract and
license interpretation, including fair use and copyright
The Libraries:
In an effort to provide relevant customer service in an ever-changing
environment, the Texas A&M University Libraries is developing a core
culture representing flexibility, innovation and risk-taking. In
addition, the Libraries recognize the value in creating a culture that

The Libraries currently rank 8th in materials expenditures ($23.6
million) and 4th in ongoing expenditures ($16.6 million) among all ARL
libraries. Additionally, the Libraries typically rank near the top 10
for starting librarian salaries among ARL U.S. Public Academic
Libraries. Currently the staffing includes 242 individuals which
includes 75 librarians holding faculty status
Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with
qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be
$53,500. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life
insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays and
vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for
professional travel and development activities.
