Position: DIGITAL INNOVATION LIBRARIAN, INSTRUCTOR/ASSISTANT
Nine-Month Tenure-Track Faculty
Beginning August 2019

Description: The Library Department welcomes applications for Digital
Innovation Librarian. The position will provide leadership in digital
initiatives for the Library and serve as a resource for the University
community for our growing digital repository. Develop best practices,
standards, and technologies that support discovery, access,
management, and preservation of the Library’s digital assets in all
formats (text, image, audio, and video). They will also participate in
offering research assistance, information literacy instruction, and
serve as the subject librarian for selected departments. MU is a
learner-focused institution located in historic Lancaster County, with
an enrollment of about 8,500 undergraduate and graduate students.

Required: Proof of MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited
institution and 10 additional graduate credits required by date of
appointment. Knowledge of strategies for digital object creation,
curation, and preservation. Experience working with digital asset
management, digital repository and/or digital library systems (e.g.
DSpace, Islandora/Fedora, CONTENTdm, TIND). Familiarity with a variety
of digital library standards for file formats and metadata content,
structure, and values. Exceptional with: oral and written
communication skills and experience establishing positive and
productive collaborations at a college/university, analytical and
organizational skills. Evidence of: professional initiative and
flexibility, a commitment to student learning commensurate with the
university’s strong instructional mission, leadership experience on
collaborative, collegial, and project-oriented teams. Experience with:
designing and maintaining web-based resources, enthusiasm for
teaching, either in a library or other setting. Commitment to
diversity and equity. Three successful background checks.

Preferred: Second Master’s degree or ABD. Demonstrated experience
providing leadership for digital collection projects. Understanding of
archival theory and best practices as they relate to the acquisition,
description, and preservation of digital collections. Experience with:
tools used to capture, preserve, and deliver born-digital materials;
writing grants for digital projects; supervising students with digital
projects; creating documentation for digital projects; providing
reference service/research assistance in multiple formats.
Professional experience in an academic library.
