Subject: RE: Merry Christmas!
Dear Ann,

Thank you for moderating and animating so well the LIBLICENCE. It
offers me some interesting readings every morning.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Paris!

My Christmas thinking goes to the immorality of profits. Why do so
many of you link open access to the issue of profits of commercial
publishers? Maybe they are inspired by the Dickens 'novel.

I work in finance but I am by no mean a capitalist. Looking at the
size of the mortgage I have to repay on my apartment, I would
certainly be better off in a well-run communist utopia. France is
actually heavily inspired by such a utopia.

My understanding of the matter is certainly superficial. Still, as an
outsider, I am perfectly comfortable in sharing the ideal of science
free to all users at no cost. This is an easy one to embrace. But why
no profit for publishers? And what about all corporates that will make
profits indirectly from science, such as Google Scholar, or Dell, or
the real estate company that built the library? Are they also to be
fought? :)

Maybe some contributors could spend a week here in France, to see what
kind of grumpy society too much profit-whipping leads to...!
