There is still time to register for the Charleston Seminar on Legal
Issues in Libraries that will be held prior to the start of the 2015
Charleston Conference on Tuesday, November 3, from 9:00 - 4:00 pm, at
the Francis Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston, SC.

Librarians are faced with legal issues every day but, without knowing
what to look for, it can be easy to miss or misunderstand them.
Conventional wisdom that offers easy answers can be tempting, but it
may provide a false sense of security. Even worse, by trying to
follow rules we don’t really understand, we may unnecessarily impede
the library’s ability to do good work. Through a series of
discussions and group activities, this day-long session will prepare
librarians to make informed, thoughtful decisions in key legal areas
that are becoming ever more crucial in institutional settings.

The seminar will be presented in partnership between the Charleston
Library Conference and UNC Chapel Hill School of Library and
Information Science. The session will be led by William Cross,
Director, Copyright and Digital Scholarship at NCSU Libraries and
Kevin Smith, Director of Scholarly Communications at Duke University;
it will be moderated by Ann Okerson, Senior Advisor at CRL.

The registration cost is $225 for the full day session. More
