One could also say they're where they are today because they've been
gouging academic libraries with their prices for so long they have an
almost insurmountable resources advantage and can afford to gobble up
any organization that they think can gain them an even bigger
advantage.  Let the next round of unjustified price increases begin!!

In another brilliant, strategical visionary acquisition, Elsevier has
acquired BEPress, the company behind Digital Commons, the leading
software platform for institutional repositories. Roger Schonfeld has

Perhaps in itself this is not a game-changer, but coupled with the
acquisitions of Mendeley and SSRN, Elsevier's dominant position is
reinforced, even as the company redirects itself into the world of
data analytics.

Let's hear if for the Elsevier management, and let's face it: Elsevier
is where they are today because they simply are smarter than anyone
else.
