Thanks, Jim.

The original article in PeerJ is a great read and the authors have
done the hard work of gathering and organizing data about millions of
articles, DOIs, uses, etc.

One question this raises is: Have the publishers been tracking these
numbers all along? (probably)

While publishers may see SciHub as a reason to move away from
subscriptions, they’re already supplanting subscriptions with gold OA.
So I don’t think that, as businesses, they’re in any danger. Free to
read articles is an improvement, a step on the road.
