PALGRAVE MACMILLAN ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF PALGRAVE PIVOT

London, New York, October, 2012 – A new initiative from Palgrave Macmillan is
breaking down the boundaries of publishing research.

Palgrave Pivot publishes peer-reviewed research at lengths between the journal
article and the monograph. This e-first initiative liberates
scholarship from the
straightjacket of traditional formats, allowing works to be published
in the format
and length best suited to the research itself, within 12 weeks of manuscript
acceptance.

Palgrave Pivot was developed following a year-long research project, which asked
over 1,000 scholars about the challenges faced when publishing research. The
findings showed that the scholarly community had a real need for an alternative
publishing format, and this has been echoed in numerous endorsements
for Palgrave
Pivot since it was first announced in December 2011. “This is a bold innovation.
Whereas publishing these days is too often belatedly reactive rather
than proactive,
Palgrave Macmillan has created an exciting new form to occupy the middle ground
between a journal article and a monograph that will have significant impact on
future work in the Humanities and Social Sciences”, notes Eric
Rasmussen, Chair of
the Department of English, University of Nevada, USA.

Palgrave Pivot is committed to publishing quickly, offering scholarship in the
Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) greater opportunities to move
forward rapidly
and have greater impact. As HSS scholars are only too aware, it can
take years for
research in these fields to achieve final publication. Palgrave Pivot
authors can
expect their work to be available within 12 weeks of manuscript acceptance,
enabling scholars to respond immediately to topical debates and issues. Neil
Chakraborti, Senior Lecturer in Criminology, University of Leicester,
UK concurs that
Palgrave Pivot publications provide “an ideal format for scholars seeking to
disseminate their research while it is still fresh and current”.

One example of the topical relevance of Palgrave Pivot publications is
a new work by
Kath Woodward, Professor of Sociology and Head of Department in the Sociology
Department, Open University, UK. Sporting Times is one of the first scholarly
publications published on the London 2012 Olympics.
