The Research Library at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve
System is seeking a Data Acquisitions Librarian.  The position is designed
to meet the Board's need for support in assessing, negotiating for, and
acquiring data resources to meet time-sensitive research needs.

The Mission

As the central bank of the United States, the Federal Reserve's mission is
to provide the nation with a safer, more flexible, and more stable monetary
and financial system. As a Federal Reserve staff member, you will play a
critical role in accomplishing this mission.

The Environment

Research at the Federal Reserve Board is data-intensive and time-sensitive.
The Board licenses hundreds of data resources which must be managed closely
to ensure that the information is the best match for the Board's business
needs. In addition, the Board continues to explore new sources for data and
research to make sure that the researchers and analysts have the most
accurate and up-to-date financial and economic information possible. Many
of the contracts for data involve multiple divisions at the Board; some are
consortial agreements including the Federal Reserve Banks.

The Position

The librarian will work closely with two colleagues to manage the Board's
portfolio of data resources.  For a portfolio of specific data resources or
subject areas, the librarian will conduct reference interviews to learn
about new data needs, maintain relationships with key content vendors,
negotiate both renewal of existing licenses and new licenses, arrange
training, and assist managers with data and content budget projections.

The Data Acquisitions Librarian reports to the Chief Librarian; the
position is non-supervisory.

The successful applicant will have an MLS degree and 2 or more years of
experience in acquiring and managing data and electronic resources, in
negotiating, and in reviewing agreements.  The position requires impeccable
attention to detail and the ability to manage competing projects.  Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills are essential. Excellent
interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, sound judgment, and
initiative are required. The librarian should enjoy working collaboratively
as part of a team while at the same time be able to work efficiently and
effectively as an individual.

Specific knowledge of data and resources in the fields of business,
banking, finance, and economics is desirable.

The position is being advertised at both the FR-24 ($61,450-$94,480) and
FR-25 ($70,860-$112,580) levels. Additionally, the Board offers an
attractive benefits package.

The vacancy announcement and information on working at the Board can be
found at the Board's website:
