The University of Nevada, Reno seeks an experienced professional for
Assistant Dean for Collections and Knowledge Access Services.
Reporting to the Dean, University Libraries and Teaching and Learning
Technologies, the position serves as a member of the Libraries’
executive team and leads in helping the libraries meet the challenges
of changing modes of scholarly communication.

Major responsibilities are to:

• Provide leadership for units responsible for resource acquisition
and access, including collection development, acquisitions, electronic
resources and licensing, serials, discovery services, metadata and
cataloging, and ILS database management (Innovative Interfaces)

• Manage a multi-million dollar materials budget, aligning resource
allocation decisions with strategic direction

• Provide leadership for the selection, licensing, management and
preservation of print and electronic resources

• Manage vendor licenses and agreements

• Develop data driven and curriculum based decision making strategies
to manage library collections

• Provide leadership in consortial and cooperative activities that
include collections and scholarly communication

• Monitor and share information related to developments in scholarly
communication issues, collection development, electronic resources,
licensing and copyright

• Maintain current knowledge of higher education trends and research
needs in the context of rapidly developing technologies

• Represent the Libraries within the university and various external communities

Required qualifications:

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program

• Eight years of experience in an academic or research library, with a
proven record of successful leadership and demonstrated ability to
manage librarians and staff

• Professional experience in collection development in an
academic/research library, including:

o managing a large library materials budget or other complex budgets

o approval plans and/or vendor profiles for shelf-ready monographs

o using statistics and analytics to measure use and inform decision making

• Experience successfully leading and implementing change

• A demonstrated record of scholarship, publication, and professional service

Salary is competitive. This is a full-time, tenure track faculty
position. Appointment may be at the level of assistant professor or
above, dependent upon experience, record of scholarship, service, and
achievement. Benefits: TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24
vacation days per year; generous sick leave. No state income tax or
FICA. Tuition benefits for self and family.

The University of Nevada, Reno is the land-grant university in the
state with a Carnegie classification as a comprehensive doctoral
institution with a medical school and high research activity. Reno is
a metropolitan area of 410,000, bound on the west by the majestic
Sierra Nevada mountains and on the east by the rolling basin and
range. Thirty-eight miles from Lake Tahoe, Reno is a community noted
for its arts and festivals as well as outdoor recreational
opportunities.
