Transforming Technical Services: Growing IT Skill Sets Within
Technical Services Departments

(ALCTS Acquisitions Section Technology Committee)
Saturday, June 23, 2012
1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Anaheim Convention Center-Ballroom B

Abstract:  Drastic staff reductions and the continuous print to
digital shift require a transformation of Technical Services (TS) to
remain relevant. One effective approach is through growing IT skill
sets within TS departments.  Several libraries will describe what IT
skill sets they have found useful, how to grow them in house and what
strategies have been used to overcome potential barriers.  TS staff
who have mastered IT skill sets will also describe how they are
overcoming the "lost in translation" and related issues to support
others moving in similar directions.
