Andree,

One of the strategies I use here at Texas A&M, especially with
scientists and engineers, is to use articles published in Nature or
Science.  This seems to generate attention not because of the quality
of the articles (though they are often are fine) but because the
reputation of the journals in these communities.  Of course, it is
important to check the message of the article.
