At Trinity University’s Elizabeth Huth Coates Library, we believe that
special collections and archives have a fascinating role to play in
the future of the academic library. We therefore seek qualified
candidates for the position of Special Collections Librarian who are
passionate about the rare, unique, and sometimes strange things housed
in special collections and archives and who will ceaselessly look for
creative ways to marry those materials to the innovative curricula
developed by Trinity faculty.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of Collection Strategies and Resource Sharing,
this tenure-track faculty position is full time. The Special
Collections Librarian serves as the public-facing representative of
special collections and archives and plays an integral part in the
vibrant information literacy program at Trinity. This librarian looks
at the collections and sees possibilities where others may not,
identifying materials appropriate for use in courses and collaborating
with subject liaison librarians on the use of these materials to
support the curriculum. This librarian also

·         Administers and plans all aspects of the operation and care
of the library’s special collections.

·         Establishes priorities, goals, and objectives and develops
and implements policies and procedures for the efficient and effective
operation and maintenance of the collections.

·         Works closely with a full-time processing archivist.

·         Supervises student workers and oversees their service at the
special collections reference desk.

·         As a tenure-track member of the library faculty, serves on
university committees and performs to the university’s standards in
the areas of librarianship, scholarship, and service. (Library

REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program. Ability to provide
effective and creative access to special collections and archives and
a strong desire to promote them to the campus, alumni, and other
communities. Good communication skills, a high energy level, and self‐
confidence are also musts, as is the ability to work effectively and
with initiative, both as a team member and as an individual.
Demonstrated interest in professional development and faculty
activities. Strong teaching, public speaking, outreach, or
presentation skills.

Preferred:

At least two years of professional academic library experience.
Teaching experience. Experience managing special collections.
Experience with environmental monitoring, disaster planning, in-house
conservation, reformatting, and data migration. Experience creating
web pages. Understanding of copyright and rights management issues and
of privacy laws relating to analog and born-digital collections.
Project management experience. Knowledge of integrated library systems
and understanding of descriptive cataloging.
