WORLD BANK LAUNCHES NEW eLIBRARY ON STATE-OF-THE-ART PUBLISHING PLATFORM

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 23, 2013) – Coinciding with the World Bank
eLibrary’s 10th anniversary, the World Bank launched today a
completely new and redesigned eLibrary website at
elibrary.worldbank.org. The value-added website is available to
institutions by subscription at elibrary.worldbank.org. The eLibrary
takes advantage of a new, state-of-the-art platform to provide
features and functions that researchers and academics need to find and
work with World Bank publications and research. New features include
improved search and browse functionality, chapter-level access to
content, citation tools, content alerts, and mobile-friendly access.

“Now, for the first time, students and professors can search the
latest World Bank publications at the chapter level, going straight to
the content they need,” said Shana Wagger, Manager of Technology and
eProduct Development at World Bank Publications.

The World Bank eLibrary offers full-text access to the complete
collection of World Bank books, working papers, and journal articles –
including the World Bank Research Observer and the World Bank Economic
Review – published since the 1990s. eLibrary subscribers are assured
full and immediate access to all academic research and scholarship
published by the World Bank.

The majority of content in the World Bank eLibrary is covered by a
Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license – the most liberal
Creative Commons license available – which allows users to download,
distribute, and build upon the Bank’s published works.

Other features and benefits of the new World Bank eLibrary website include:

-a powerful new search engine offering robust full text and
metadata-based searches as well as post-search filtering

-the ability to browse content by region, country, and topic, and view
“Most Popular”

-contextual information on regions and topics, plus direct links to
relevant World Bank resources

-recently published books searchable at the chapter level

-exporting to commonly-used citation software including ProCite,
BibText and EndNote

-mobile-friendly access

-individual accounts for bookmarking favorites, saving search results,
and content alerts

-convenient content sharing via e-mail or social media

"Upgrading the eLibrary website to Atypon’s cutting-edge Literatum
publishing platform allows us to continually improve the user
experience and innovate as a publisher,” said Carlos Rossel, World
Bank Publisher. “Our goal is to make our publications easier to find
and use so they can lead to new thinking and research on development,
inform policy, and inspire others to find solutions to development
problems."

All content on the new eLibrary website will be indexed in OCLC’s
WorldCat; ExLibris’ Primo and SFX; Serials Solutions’ Summon Service;
Bowker’s Syndetic Solutions; and EBSCO Discovery Service for
convenient access through library cataloging and discovery systems. In
addition, subscribing institutions have access to downloadable MARC
records and metadata for World Bank eLibrary content.

The World Bank eLibrary covers more than 20 areas of research related
to poverty and development including economic and human development,
climate change, agriculture, infrastructure, health, education,
natural resources, policy, law, gender equality, and emerging markets.
