Greetings from arXiv! This email is a roundup of links for finding out
what arXiv has been up to, and is planning for 2017.

Thanks to the support from the Simons Foundation and 201 libraries and
research laboratories worldwide, we had a successful fund raising year
in 2016. We would also like to thank the 14 institutions that gave at
the $10,000 (“Platinum”) level in 2016. These institutions are
long-term heavy arXiv users whose increased financial support allowed
us to carry out the arXiv@25 review process. We appreciate their
generosity! Our annual update provides a summary of some of the work
these funds supported:

The arXiv sustainability planning process that we conducted over the
past five years aimed to diversify revenue sources, ensure that arXiv
meets a set of governance principles, and provide transparent and
reliable community-supported service. We maintain information about
the program, including membership, annual budgets, advisory groups,
roadmaps, etc. on: http://arxiv.org/help/support

In 2017 we are working on a variety of improvements, including initial
design and development of next-generation arXiv (arXiv-NG), and an
updating of our business plan. For more information on this and other
projects, please see our 2017 Roadmap:

https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/arxivpub/2017+arXiv+Roadmap

In addition to this occasional email list, and the news feed on
arXiv.org we have implemented two other ways you can keep up with
arXiv: a redesigned wiki, which includes budget, governance and
planning information: https://confluence.cornell.edu/x/m4NRF and an
arXiv news twitter feed: @arXiv

As you know, arXiv is an open access, shared resource and we are
committed to remaining free both for submitters and users worldwide.
In order to meet this priority, we rely on our member institutions and
individual supporters for roughly half of our operating budget. If you
find arXiv to be useful, we would appreciate your support both by
encouraging your institutional library to join us as members, or by
encouraging your researchers to donate during our pledge drive at the
end of this month. Donations to arXiv are tax deductible!
We sincerely thank all our supporters and welcome questions and suggestions.

Best regards,

arXiv Team at Cornell University Library
