AN INTRODUCTION TO ALTMETRICS
The latest webinar from STM's Library Relations Group

Wednesday , October 1, 2014
11:00am EDT (New York)
4:00pm BST (London)

This webinar will provide delegates with a quick introduction to
altmetrics, looking at the range of alternative ways currently being
deployed to measure the impact of published research. In particular
the session will aim to:-

• Give an insight into the extent to which altmetrics are currently
being provided

• Assess both the additional insights which they can bring over and
above longer standing measures like citation, as well as their
limitations and constraints

• Discover how they are currently being used or how their use is
currently being considered by libraries, publishers, and end users

• Look at how they are compiled and derived, exploring the extent to
which seemingly similar metrics are (to use the original COUNTER
mantra) genuinely consistent, compatible, and credible

• Summarise current efforts to introduce cross sector standards into
this emerging field
