I thought at first that this story was an April Fool's joke, but
apparently it is not. "Inside Higher Ed" is reporting that the U. of
Michigan cancelled a screening of the film "American Sniper" because
of protests that the movie offended the sensibilities of some
students.

What makes this sound like an April Fool's joke is that the movie was
to be replaced by a screening of "Paddington," which apparently is
about a talking bear that likes marmalade. But the administration
then reversed itself: "Paddington" is gone, "American Sniper" is back.

One would have hoped that wiser heads would have from the outset
realized that it is hopeless and undesirable to attempt to protect the
sensibilities of individuals from expression of this kind.

I haven't seen either movie, but I am now planning to see both, as a
form of protest.
