The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS),
publisher of the Science family of journals, plans an expansion of its
scientific communication efforts with the launch of a new title,
Science Advances, as an extended forum for high-quality, peer-reviewed
research.

GOLD OPEN ACCESS

Science Advances will be published online on an open-access basis,
with articles freely available to the public. This will be a Gold Open
Access title that will incur Article Processing Charges (APC), which
have yet to be determined. Read the AAAS announcement and Science
Editorial about Science Advances.

GREEN OPEN ACCESS

The online editions of Science, Science Signaling, and Science
Translational Medicine are all considered Green Open Access titles. As
a non-profit organization with its mission to advance science and
serve society, peer-reviewed research content becomes freely available
with registration on our website after a 12-month embargo period from
the date of publication.

Authors are permitted to archive the accepted version of the
manuscript in their institution's repository after it has been
published by AAAS, subject to the terms of the License to Publish that
authors sign.

For authors who are required by their funding agencies to make their
research results publicly available, AAAS allows posting of the
accepted version of the paper to the funding body's archive or
designated repository (such as PubMed Central) six months after
publication, provided that a link to the final version published by
AAAS is included. Read the full requirements and conditions.

HYBRID OPEN ACCESS

Science, Science Signaling, and Science Translational Medicine do not
offer a hybrid publishing option where some of the articles may be
made open access.

SPONSORED OPEN ACCESS

AKA: Post-Publication Open Access

This option is currently unavailable, but under review by AAAS.

Thank you,

Tom Ryan
Director, AAAS/Science
