**Please note this is a FOLLOW-UP TO AN INDIVIDUAL E-MAIL ANNOUNCEMENT
ISSUED on 6/14/12: If you are an ECS subscriber and did not receive
that announcement, please contact [log in to unmask] **

ECS and HighWire are finalizing steps to make the ECS transition to
the HighWire platform, scheduled for mid-July 2012, as seamless as
possible to ensure that subscribers will continue to experience
uninterrupted service and access to ECS content.

WHAT SUBSCRIBERS NEED TO KNOW to access the new ECS Digital Library
platform and related content: The domain name for the ECS Digital
Library (ECS DL; ecsdl.org) will not change, although the internal URL
structure will. A full map of redirects from the old URLs to the new
will be in place so subscribers following an existing link from a
bookmark or from within library technology layers (including Web scale
discovery and link resolvers) should still land at the appropriate
article. Non-article content will also be redirected, as will ECS
journal-specific URLs. ECS and HighWire are also working with library
technology vendors so that they can propagate new linking details to
their library clients over a period of time, slowly relieving the need
for redirections of URLs. This approach is designed to make the
transition easy-to-manage for libraries—changes need to be made, but
not concurrent with the go-live date. In addition, the new site will
indicate the new linking syntax to be used by those libraries that
choose to configure their own knowledge-bases, or for inclusion in
OPACs. At the same time as the transition, three new ECS journals
(http://www.electrochem.org/new_journals/) will be added to the ECS
DL, and new and easy-to-navigate landing pages will be created for all
ECS DL content.

What SUBSCRIBERS NEED TO DO to access the new ECS Digital Library
platform and related content: ECS will automatically set up subscriber
accounts and IPs on the HighWire platform. When this transition goes
“live,” on or about July 17, 2012, subscribers will receive an e-mail
directly from ECS that will provide a link to their new account, and
instructions as to activate it. This will help ensure that subscribers
have continued access to their account and can manage it effectively.
Online access to the ECS Digital Library will continue uninterrupted;
and although there is no need to act immediately to activate
account(s) on the new platform, the sooner this is done, the better.
ECS will provide contact support information.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns,
or if you are a subscriber and did not receive an individual e-mail
about this directly. If you are not a subscriber and would like to
subscribe for the 2013 subscription year, please also contact me.
Also, if you are attending the upcoming Special Library Association
meeting and exhibit, ECS will have a booth at SLA and will be
available to meet with you and answer any questions.

Thank you, Karen Baliff Ornstein

About The ECS Digital Library: This searchable online compendium of
the entire scope of ECS technical research and content and includes
more than 80 years of legacy content and up-to-the-minute research in
one robust and intuitive interface. By the end of this year, the ECS
DL is on target to include 100,000 entries. The Society's
peer-reviewed journals have consistently ranked among the top
international publications in their field (based on ISI Science
Citation Index criteria) and its proceedings and extended meeting
abstracts provide scientists with a first look into the current
research.

About ECS:  Founded in 1902 as an international nonprofit, educational
organization concerned with a broad range of phenomena relating to
electrochemical and solid-state science and technology, The
Electrochemical Society is celebrating 110 years of service to the
scientific community. Today ECS has more than 9,000 scientists and
engineers holding individual memberships in over 75 countries
worldwide, as well as close to 100 corporations and laboratories
holding corporate memberships. www.electrochem.org
