Join us for the next CopyTalk webinar: code + copyright = the Durationator.

For the last decade, the Copyright Research Lab at Tulane University
has been building the Durationator — a tool, helpdesk and resource for
solving copyright questions. Designed to be used by libraries,
archives, museums, artists and content owners (and everyone else!),
the Durationator Copyright System combines complex legal research +
code + human experts. The Durationator looks at every kind of cultural
work (poems, films, books, photographs, art, sound recordings) in
every country and territory of the world. It even covers state sound
recordings! Elizabeth Townsend Gard will discuss what was learned
during the ten-year development process. She will touch on basic
information that is available for determining whether a work is under
copyright or in the public domain, and how to think through copyright
questions at the help desk.

Dr. Elizabeth Townsend Gard is an Associate Professor of Law and the
Jill H. and Avram A. Glazer Professor of Social Entrepreneurship at
Tulane University. She teaches intellectual property, art law,
copyright and trademark law, advertising, property and law and
entrepreneurship. Her research interests include fan fiction, the role
of law in creativity in the content industries, and video games. She
also fosters kittens, which makes Elizabeth an even more appealing
speaker!
