Naka:

Many thanks for your kind words yesterday.

I think it is far to say that most institutions in the area are
returning to normal – but the few that have been badly affected have
bigger priorities that worrying about journal access (at least for
now). We are calling all our customers in the areas most badly hit by
the storm for a status check.

Almost perversely, COUNTER download activity in NY, NJ, CT and DE on
ACS Web Editions actually went up during the week surrounding the
storm despite the wide spread electrical interruptions and facility
closures. (We witnessed a similar phenomena last year, in Japan in
the days after the tsunami strike.) A interesting demonstration of
how important library-supplied content resources are to the research
community: even if labs are closed and classes cancelled, access to
high quality research and data bases is a clear priority.

Brandon, do you or anyone else know which academic libraries are in
need of this kind of assistance?

And I'd like to thank ACS for thinking of this measure.

Best,
