Apologies for cross posting, but in the theme of the Elvis song, we
hope colleagues in and around the Philadelphia, PA/NJ area will take
this call to action to come out, meet up, and be "a little more
active' around issues that are concerning the whole scholarly
communications sector ... a great chance to meet new friends too !

Wednesday, May 3, 2017
5:30-7:45pm
AACR office
615 Chestnut St, 15th floor
Philadelphia, PA 19106

Please join us at SSP's next Philadelphia regional networking event!
We will come together for small-group discussions on four topics, each
broad enough for equal doses of theory and practice. Networking
opportunities, along with wine and snacks, will be on offer throughout
the evening. Our anticipated topics include:

1. Funding: Should we be activists for the arts and sciences? How do
we demonstrate our support for scholarly communication? What are some
creative examples from publishers, librarians, and researchers?

2. Technology (moderated by Alexa): What innovations have you seen in
the scholarly communication space? Are you thinking about embracing AI
(Artificial Intelligence)?

3. Metrics: How do you measure up? How are the numbers and attention
levels affecting your publishing program, your library collections, or
your departments' promotion and tenure policies? Are you looking at
new metrics, or the old metrics in new ways?

4. All Things Open: Open Access, open data, open science, open
scholarship . . . what do we mean by "open"? Is OA affecting your
publishing program or your library collection budget? What are new
creative and practical examples of OA initiatives ?

We encourage all stakeholders in the scholarly communications
ecosystem to share experiences and insights. This event is suitable
for both experienced and early career publishers, librarians,
students, service providers and funders in the Philadelphia area. All
voices and participants very welcome.
