Come to New Orleans this June 22-24, and join your scholarly
publishing colleagues at *AAUP 2014: Open to Debate*

<http://www.aaupnet.org/events-a-conferences/annual-meeting/aaup-2014/aaup-2014>!

Publishing services at university and college libraries are on the
rise, along with it a growing sense that collaboration between
university presses and libraries is an essential part of the future of
mission-based scholarly publishing. The Association of American
University Presses is pleased to offer significant programming at our
2014 annual conference of special interest to library publishers and
individuals pursuing publishing collaborations—as well as special
discounts for librarians.

A pre-meeting workshop on *Publishing Open and Affordable Textbooks*
<http://www.aaupnet.org/events-a-conferences/annual-meeting/aaup-2014/pre-meeting/library>
presents an innovative scenario-based problem-solving exercise.
Designed specifically for libraries and presses interested in finding
solutions to a fast-growing public policy concern, goals for the
workshop include: bridging campus cultures—from the service program of
a library to the business orientation of a press; better understanding
the issues involved with publishing open texts and course materials;
and developing strategies for collaboration that build on
complementary strengths.

Librarians are encouraged to stay on for the full AAUP 2014 Annual
Meeting. The educational program
<http://www.aaupnet.org/events-a-conferences/annual-meeting/aaup-2014/program>
includes opportunities to learn more about issues in scholarly
publishing from the nitty-gritty to the 20,000-foot view. Session
topics include:

• Rapidly changing *metadata standards* for books, serials, and
digital products;

• Incorporating InCopy into a *p**ublishing workflow*;

• Managing *multimodal digital humanities* projects;

• International and funder *access mandates*;

• Revised *dissertations *and first books.

In several sessions we’ll hear directly from librarians and scholars
about how all three of these partners in scholarly
communications—scholars, libraries, and presses—can best work together
to serve our common mission. The meeting also offers many networking
opportunities, and the chance to meet a range of publishing service
providers.

Librarians attending the Publishing Open and Affordable Textbooks
workshop are eligible for a discounted workshop rate as well as a
special rate package for the main meeting. Non-profit rates available
to those just attending the main meeting help keep this among the most
affordable professional development conferences in scholarly
publishing.
