The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) announces the ten
recipients of funding available through the Society’s travel grant
program, which supports travel to and attendance at the SSP Annual
Meeting for students of publishing and information science, and early
career publishing professionals in the first three years of
employment.

The following individuals were selected from a highly competitive
group of applicants:

Five Early Career Awards:

Katherine Bridgewater, Wiley-Blackwell
Lauren Crocker, Wayne State University Press
Dawn Durante, University of Illinois Press
Korey Jackson, MPublishing – University of Michigan
Crystal Thompson, Families in Society, Alliance for Children and Families

Five Student Awards:

Joana Costa Knufinke, New York University
Anamika Dasgupta, Long Island University
Emily McHugh, McGill University
Erich Purpur, University of North Carolina
Nicholas Weber, University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign

Awardees will be paired with mentors who hold senior management
positions within SSP member organizations.   Mentors will help the
award winners connect into the educational and networking
opportunities available at the Annual Conference, which will be held
May 30-June 1 in Arlington, Virginia. For details, visit the SSP
website, http://www.sspnet.org.

“The winners of these 2012 awards, who come from commercial,
university, and society publishers, are reflective of a large portion
of SSP’s membership, and so in part they represent the future of the
society and of scholarly publishing overall. The travel grant program,
now in its XX year is visible proof of SSP’s continuing commitment to
innovation and growth in the scholarly publishing community,” said
Terry Van Schaik, President of SSP.

The Society for Scholarly Publishing gratefully acknowledges the
generous support provided by the sponsors of the Travel Grants
program.  Sponsors of the 2012 awards included the Copyright Clearance
Center, Inera's eXtyles, The Rockefeller University Press, and SAGE.
