Here at Ingenta Connect any library that is signed up as a system
administrator simple has to enter "View existing subscriptions" to see
a list of all the subscriptions the library has access to on the
Ingenta Connect service. This service is completely free, and faculty
can be given access rights. The subscription list can be downloaded as
a .csv

It would be relatively easy to expand this service to include all
subscriptions, whether or not these were for publishers who were using
Ingenta as a platform provider.

Eric has a point about the user-unfriendliness of many library search
tools ... which is one reason why I've thought it would be better if
libraries were more heavily invested in developing them than
corporations.

I think the answer is even simpler than that - many faculty have no
clue what journals their library actually subscribes to. Every year
we get recommendations for subscriptions and faculty requests from
faculty who are convinced the library is hindering their research by
not having journal xyz - only to find out that we've had subscriptions
to their title for years.

Part of this is how un-user friendly library search tools are, but
part of it is also that faculty tend to feel librarians have nothing
to teach them "about doing research". *eye roll*
