Job Title: Head of Collections Services
Department: Olin Libraries
Full Time

The Libraries at Washington University in Saint Louis seeks a Head of
Collections Services.

Reporting to an Associate University Librarian (AUL), the person in
this position provides leadership and coordination in developing,
evaluating and assessing the Libraries’ collections to support the
University’s teaching and research missions.  The incumbent oversees
collection development and management of resources in all formats;
advises the AUL and University Librarian (UL) on allocation and
management of funds for library collections; serves as a member of
library-wide groups, task forces and projects as appropriate; shares
responsibility for library-wide planning and policymaking; and
develops programmatic capacity to assess collections and usage of both
print and electronic resources, using this data to inform collections
strategies.

Essential Functions:

Coordinate, with faculty, subject librarians, and other library
administrators, the development, evaluation, and assessment policies
and practices of the libraries collections.

Evaluate consortial needs; initiate and participate in collaborative
and coordinates collection development initiatives.

Participate, and represent Washington University, in local, regional,
and national meetings and initiatives related to collection
development.

Negotiate and manage licenses with publishers and vendors.

Supervise and oversee the work of the staff in the Acquisitions Unit.

Contribute to scholarly communications support by educating and
informing faculty, students, and the campus at large about issues and
trends,
especially as they relate to new forms of publishing.

Required Qualifications:

MLS from an ALA-accredited program, or relevant advanced degree.

5 years of directly related experience.  Additional education may
substitute for experience.

Experience: supervising staff a various levels; managing large and
complex budgets; working with publishers and vendors and/or
negotiating contracts.

Demonstrated knowledge of developments in scholarly communications,
collection management, the publishing industry, resource management,
and licensing and copyright issues.

Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

3 - 5 years experience in an academic or research library, preferably
in collections or acquisitions service.
Additional advanced degree

Salary Range: The hiring range for this position is commensurate with
experience.
