Nature is a massive factory for rejecting papers.  That’s one reason
why it costs so much.  Unfortunately, the costs associated with
rejected papers are all loaded onto the accepted papers and paid for
(mainly) by subscribers.

I’ve always felt that Nature is one of the journals that could easily
impose a submission charge and not lose much in the way of
high-quality submission.
