From: Joseph Esposito <[log in to unmask]> Date: Mon, 30 Jan 2012 09:39:53 -0800 I participated in a panel at ALA on discovery and wrote up some notes on it at the Scholarly Kitchen. One commenter asked for more information on a particular issue: What is the role of the Web-scale search engines in library discovery? How is that usage measured? And what kind of access to users get from search engines? I don't know the answers to these questions. Can anybody provide some more information on this? I have been told by librarians that over 50% of the usage of their materials came from Google and Google Scholar, but I neglected to ask the important question: what kind of usage? The link to the Kitchen post is: http://scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2012/01/30/rediscovering-discovery-how-we-find-things-and-its-implications/ Thank you for your help. Joe Esposito Joseph J.
