From: "Taylor, Anneliese" <[log in to unmask]> Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2012 00:44:55 +0000 UCSF's OA policy is indeed a Green OA approach. The policy language is meant simply to describe the principle that UCSF faculty have chosen to follow with regard to their scholarly articles . Getting into the specifics of what "final version" means to authors is being dealt with in the implementation process, and our faculty felt it was not appropriate to include such detail in the policy document. In UCSF's case the preferred final version is the publisher's version if the publisher allows it to be deposited in an open access repository. If not, the author's published article after peer-review but without the publisher's typesetting and formatting is acceptable. The policy refers to the "final version" of the article, but provides no definition of what that term means. So, is this a Green OA approach, or not? It would be helpful if such policies and their accompanying press releases were written with greater clarity. Sandy Thatcher
