With thanks particularly to Bernie Reilly and Sandy Thatcher:
reassuring to think about CRL and LC preserving the print legacy. Two
qualms remain:

1. If in 2012, a reputable commercial publisher is showing this lack
of interest in print, it's not unreasonable to be concerned with the
future.

2. Even with institutions like CRL and LC, if I understood the New
Yorker correctly, the pulping is relentless. By the time you are
reasonably sure an issue hasn't arrived at home, you have about 7 days
left to claim it. If the libraries are *that* efficient, then I'm
impressed, but I would hardly criticize them if their normal cycle
took a little longer -- a little too long for the publisher's
impatience.
