From: "Martin, Heath C" <[log in to unmask]> Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2013 21:20:52 +0000 ALCTS CMS Collection Connection Blogmaster The Collection Management Section (CMS) of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) seeks applicants for the volunteer position of blogmaster for the Collection Connection blog. Collection Connection presents new ideas about library collections and provides a forum to discuss changes in the practice of collection management and development. Examine Collection Connection here: http://www.collectionconnection.alcts.ala.org/ This is a three-year renewable position, beginning in early fall 2013, with overall editorial and management responsibility for the blog, under the oversight of the CMS Publications Committee. Position Duties: I. Manages the blog site. Along with the ALCTS office liaison to the CMS Publications Committee, the blog master has administrative control of the site. a. Sets up contributors with IDs and passwords. Removes contributors or resets passwords when necessary. b. Trains contributors in the use of the blog software. c. Creates relevant subject categories for blog posts. d. Reviews comments and manages comment spam. e. Designs and manages the theme, style, and appearance of the blog. f. Implements and maintains links to other applications (social media, etc.). g. Understands and applies other features of the blog software as necessary. (ALCTS/ALA hosts the blog and has the authority to select and implement the software.) II. Manages blog content. With oversight from the CMS Publications Committee, the blog master serves as the managing editor of the site. a. With approval from the CMS Publications Committee, establishes editorial guidelines and objectives for the blog. b. Recruits effective contributors to the blog. c. Makes blogging assignments to contributors as necessary to maintain a steady and varied stream of posts. d. Seeks out blog topics from the CMS Publications Committee. e. Seeks out blog topics from other CMS and ALCTS committees, especially committee reports from chairs. f. Reviews and edits posts from contributors as necessary. g. Contributes posts to the blog. III. Publicizes the blog. The blog master is ultimately responsible for raising the visibility of the blog. a. Announces new blog content via relevant email listservs or social media networks and actively participates in discussion on such sites, directing readers there to relevant blog posts. b. Works closely with the CMS Publications Committee, which will also promote the blog to the greatest extent possible through their own channels. c. Creates links and implements automated connections with distribution networks as allowed by the blog software. d. Seeks out new social media platforms and distribution networks as they develop.
