From: Deg Farrelly <[log in to unmask]> Date: Wed, 11 Dec 2013 00:09:50 +0000 Begging the indulgence of the moderatorŠas the media librarian at Arizona State University, and a strong proponent of streaming video in academic libraries, I am very pleased to be able to pass along this press release from Alexander Street Press. deg farrelly, Media Librarian Arizona State University Libraries Hayden Library C1H1 P.O. Box 871006 Tempe, Arizona 85287-1006 ----- The Arizona University Library Consortium (AULC) just became the first North American consortium to participate in Alexander Street Press¹s pilot project for evidence-based video acquisitions. Through the EBA program, authorized users at University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona State University will have a full year of access to more than 28,000 video titles from ASP, with 400 additional films added each month. At the end of the access year, the libraries will select which titles they¹d like to own in perpetuity, owning content equal in value to their initial EBA commitment. The libraries are not obligated to purchase the most-viewed titles; they can instead use Alexander Street¹s title-level usage metrics as ³evidence of need² to guide the decisions on what to incorporate into the libraries¹ permanent collections. EBA is a new model from Alexander Street that lets a library hand-curate a video collection for maximum flexibility. Alexander Street's aim is to let the librarians select individual films to support specific programs, for more cost-effective acquisitions of perpetual rights. AULC is the first consortium to join the pilot. Previously, individual libraries from the UK (University of Dundee and Leeds Metropolitan University), Australia (University of New South Wales and University of Queensland), Malaysia (University of Malaya), and the U.S. (George Mason University) decided to participate. Alexander Street looks forward to talking with libraries and consortia who would like more information. -- *Jordan D. White* *Senior Product Manager* *Alexander Street Press*
