From: Charlotte Van Rooyen <[log in to unmask]> Date: Tue, 27 May 2014 08:30:53 +0100 I hope this news is of interest to readers of liblicense-l readers. EDP Open, the Open Access publishing arm of EDP Sciences, has just released the results of a survey to appraise attitudes toward Open Access amongst learned society publishers. Key findings included: * Learned societies overwhelmingly agree that Open Access will inevitably place some learned societies’ journals into financial jeopardy. * Competing with large Open Access specialist publishers was also considered a significant challenge for learned societies. * More than ever before, with so many journals of dubious origin being published Open Access, learned societies should look to endorse content with a stamp of quality and authority. * Collaboration between learned societies could help in the transition to Open Access, by pooling resources and sharing complex tasks. Full details can be found in the press release online at: http://www.edp-open.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=273&lang=en_GB.utf8%2C+en_GB.UT The White Paper is also available to be downloaded at: http://www.edp-open.org/images/stories/doc/EDP_Society_Survey_May_2014_FINAL.pdf.
