Lars Bjornshauge has been nothing >but forthright, and defending a particular take on who did what when, >etc. is not the same as being "defensive". I¹m happy to explain. Lars¹s reaction to Joe¹s suggestion that Beall be given some credit for bringing the issue of predatory publishing to light struck me as a bit defensive. The DOAJ¹s reaction to the piece in Nature (http://bit.ly/1sITtd8) struck me the same way. I discuss this defensiveness and suggest an explanation for it in a Scholarly Kitchen posting titled "Housecleaning at the Directory of Open Access Journals" (http://bit.ly/1l8tWrG). To be very clear, though, I don¹t see this defensiveness as a major concern. The main message of my SK posting is one of praise for Lars and the DOAJ for taking on this project, which will make an already important and valuable resource even more so. I hope that message came across clearly. --- Rick Anderson Assoc. Dean for Scholarly Resources & Collections Marriott Library, University of Utah [log in to unmask]
