From: "Hansen, Dave" <[log in to unmask]> Date: Wed, 3 Dec 2014 21:00:23 +0000 Dear all – I hope this ALA-hosted webinar will be of interest to some of you: “Introducing the Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use of Collections Containing Orphan Works for Libraries, Archives, and Other Memory Institutions” Thursday, December 4 at 2:00pm Peter Jaszi (American University, Washington College of Law) and David Hansen (UC Berkeley and UNC Chapel Hill) will introduce the “Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use of Collections Containing Orphan Works for Libraries, Archives, and Other Memory Institutions.” This Statement, the most recent community-developed best practices in fair use, is the result of intense discussion group meetings with over 150 librarians, archivists, and other memory institution professionals from around the United States to document and express their ideas about how to apply fair use to collections that contain orphan works, especially as memory institutions seek to digitize those collections and make them available online. The Statement outlines the fair use rationale for use of collections containing orphan works by memory institutions and identifies best practices for making assertions of fair use in preservation and access to those collections. There is no need to pre-register! Just show up on December 4, at 2pm Eastern time. http://ala.adobeconnect.com/copyright/ ---------- David R.
