Exact Editions will in April launch a service which will encourage
publishers to offer, and libraries to acquire, perpetual access to digital
editions that better serve the needs of scholars and students.

Exact Editions invites institutions/libraries with strong interests in
poetry/literature to beta-test an initial selection of c 50 titles of
poetry, criticism and literature from Carcanet's distinguished list. The
sample from Carcanet is available now for beta-testers and the service
proper will launch in late April.

Institutions wishing to beta-test will be given campus-wide access (via IP
address) to all the Carcanet titles, which can be searched, read, cited and
shared via web browsers and through the Exactly app on iOS and Android
devices. Reading these books with an iPad is a particularly enjoyable
experience.

Publishers with complex or heavily formatted books, or simply with good
books that will be widely read on campus, who wish to trial titles in the
service should send an expression of interest to [log in to unmask]

Members of the Lib-License list who would like to have their institution
evaluate the platform are invited to send a message with the subject line
"More details on beta-testing perpetual books" to [log in to unmask]

This platform addresses many of the issues identified in the recent
Lib-license discussion of Jim O'Donnell's email

*"buying" (so to speak) "books" (in a manner of speaking)*
