Smathers Libraries, University of Florida, seeks applications and nominations for the position of Chair for Acquisitions and Collections Services. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Scholarly Resources & Services, the Chair of Acquisitions and Collections Services is a tenure track library faculty position. The department’s primary responsibilities are acquiring, licensing, managing, and providing access to a variety of print and online resources. The Chair oversees management of a twelve million dollar materials budget. The Chair for Acquisitions and Collections Services is responsible for the efficient management of these operations and for the coordination and development of staff committed to continual workflow improvement. The Chair directs sixteen faculty and staff divided into areas of operations, taking a leadership role in setting goals and priorities; developing projects; allocating and managing material budgets; organizing staffing; and developing new and efficient workflows. In addition, the Chair serves as Collections Coordinator, assisting the Associate Dean of Scholarly Resources & Services by coordinating collection activities and budget management across the Smathers Libraries and Health Science Center Libraries. As Collections Coordinator, the Chair integrates acquisitions activities and practices to comply with the Libraries’ objectives for content management and collaboration with library consortia. The department initiates and manages a variety of Use-Driven Acquisition plans (i.e., Demand-Driven Acquisitions, Patron-Driven Acquisitions, and Evidence-Based Acquisitions) that balance traditional Just in Case firm order selection with innovative Just in Time acquisition methods. The Chair works with subject specialists to formulate and synthesize collection goals, objectives, and priorities that support instruction and research across multiple subject disciplines. The Chair of Acquisitions and Collections Services leads the department in implementing best practices. The Chair collaborates with colleagues to achieve department goals and to establish Library policies and procedures requiring wide consultation throughout the Libraries. The ability to successfully delegate significant responsibilities to project groups is essential. This position is a key member of the Libraries’ management team, playing an essential role in ensuring organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and development of policies for library operations that are attentive to users’ research and access needs. The successful candidate will pursue research, engage in scholarship and creative activities that generate impact nationally and internationally, including publications, presentations, and grants; as well as professional service activities that meet library-wide tenure and promotion criteria for distinction.
