As the Open Access movement continues to accelerate, it is also broadening
in scope. OA in the context of scholarly communication and scholarly
publication is moving beyond journals, monographs, and data to encompass
additional varieties of content tied to higher education and scholarship.

This SSP Community Engagement regional event will look at two areas in
education that illustrate this shifting landscape: Open Educational
Resources (OERs) and the Open Syllabus Project (OSP). How can open
strategies support education in the most effective way possible? What are
OERs and who is publishing them (or thinking about publishing them)? What
are the opportunities, challenges, and risks posed by these resources? What
is the goal of the Open Syllabus Project? How is the OSP working with
publishers already and what are future plans? And how can these initiatives
offer new perspectives on publishing, learning, scholarship, and research?
This panel brings together representatives from Temple University and The
American Assembly at Columbia University to lead a discussion about these
questions and opportunities in developing and linking OERs and OSP at local
campuses and beyond.
