From: Tony Horava <[log in to unmask]> Date: Fri, 9 Dec 2016 17:49:48 +0000 Hello Anthony, Sorry for any confusion here. The books in this series will be published as ebooks and they will be available as OA. It is mentioned below that "Books in this series will be made available under a Creative Commons license", implying that the books will be OA, within the limitations of whichever CC license is chosen. The reference to production subsidies and author funding refers to traditionally published books, not the OA financed books. There is a funding agreement between the Library and the Press for OA books; see my article in UKSG Insights: http://insights.uksg.org/articles/10.1629/uksg.278/ Best, Tony _________________________________________________________________ Tony Horava Associate University Librarian (Collections) Bibliothécaire associé (Collections) University of Ottawa / l'Universite d'Ottawa Tel : (613) 562-5800 ext. 3645 Fax : (613) 562-5196 [log in to unmask] -----Original Message----- From: Anthony <[log in to unmask]> Date: Thu, 8 Dec 2016 11:22:32 +0000 Dear Tony This looks an excellent idea but I cannot find anywhere in the submission information that the series is available open access. Is it? I do see however that you do have to pay: “Like all academic presses, UOP publishes specialized books for a niche market. Production subsidies are therefore required to offset lower profit margins and keep list prices as reasonable as possible. The greater the level of funding the author secures, the greater the possibilities for marketing their book and for competitive pricing.” This seems to suggest that it is not and that there is a print version only. Surely that cannot be the case? Anthony From: Tony Horava <[log in to unmask]> Date: Wed, 7 Dec 2016 19:10:23 +0000 Proposals are invited for a new series called “Perspectives on Open Access” to be published by the University of Ottawa Press The transformative implications of open access philosophy and practice are numerous and far-reaching. Economic, cultural, and social issues are being openly explored, and new knowledge and forms of inquiry are being advanced in an increasingly interdisciplinary context.
