From: Fred Dylla <[log in to unmask]> Date:Tue, Feb 21, 2017 at 4:28 PM Concerning the recent Liblicense postings on publisher's interest in including funder information: all stakeholders in scholarly publishing including publishers should have an interest in who funds the research described in an article. Crossref has been instrumental in helping to make funding agencies visible. In 2010, I presented a proposal at Crossref's Annual General Meeting for Crossref to consider adding funder information to the existing metadata that is collected from publishers. Crossref subsequently organized and managed a pilot project in 2012-2013 called Fundref that involved a collaboration among four funding agencies and seven publishers. The pilot project was given a significant jump start by Elsevier's donation of its extensive funder database extracted from Scopus. After the successful completion of the pilot, Fundref was opened up to participation by all publishers. Crossref renamed its service the Crossref Funder Registry and it currently lists over 14,200 funders. A recent check with Crossef shows 1.2 million articles with at least one named funder and additional searches can be done here: http://search.crossref.org/funding Fred Dylla Executive Director Emeritus American Institute of Physics
