I guess I would take Beall more seriously if he didn't constantly and personally attack those who offer different opinions. He is currently attacking a well respected medical librarian where he called her an "anti librarian" on Twitter. She stated that she thought the rising costs of journals and shrinking budgets were more of a threat to libraries than predatory publishers.

She never said predatory publishers weren't a problem, just other things were more so in her opinion.

Beall's list was helpful but his propensity to personally attack anyone who doesn't agree 100% with his view is not professional and continually negates his work. Extremism by either side does not advance the dialogue nor move us forward.

If you're going to be graded on publications then people going to want to publish, Adam Smith's invisible hand is going to meet that market demand.
