In the current system our funds go to making a few corporations wealthier, but I think if you surveyed librarians and administrators at most academic institutions they would much rather see a more balanced publishing system where journals cost their actual prices without artificial price increases and see a more robust monograph market. If the for-profit publishers decided to remove themselves from the academic market the society publishers and university presses would find themselves being called upon to take up those duties. There are a number of successful examples of university presses doing this already. The for-profits need academia MUCH more than we need them. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Eric Elmore | Electronic Resources Coordinator | The University of Texas at San Antonio | One UTSA Circle | San Antonio, TX. 78249-0671 | (O)210-458-4916/(F)210-458-4577 | [log in to unmask] | ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
