Duquesne University’s Gumberg Library invites applications from innovative,
service-oriented candidates for the position of Access and Discovery
Librarian

a non-tenure track faculty librarian position in the library's newly formed
Collections & Metadata Services Department. This position will provide
leadership and support for optimizing access and discovery of the
Libraries' extensive electronic collections, including but not limited to
databases, electronic journals, electronic books, and streaming media via
the Library's discovery system, link resolver, online catalog and website.
The incumbent will also be responsible for reporting on, manipulating, and
assessing data related to these collections to support data driven
collection decisions. Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for
Collections & Metadata Services this position will play an integral role in
the evolution, development and implementation of new strategies relating to
discovery and the user experience. The incumbent will chair the Electronic
Resources Review Committee (ERRC) as well as serve on the Library
Assessment Committee. The Access and Discovery Librarian will also serve as
a liaison to faculty and students in an academic department. The successful
candidate will be motivated by challenges in a changing library landscape;
will be energized by collaborative efforts; and will work effectively with
students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.



*ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:*

·         Develops and streamline procedures and workflows for making the
Library's electronic collections discoverable and accessible.

·         Ensures that users have timely and accurate access to the
Library's electronic resources, and that information related to electronic
resources within the Library's discovery system, link resolver, the library
catalog, and website are maintained according to industry standards.

·         Leads collection assessment activities, usage data compilation
and all reporting regarding electronic resources.

·         Works with Collections & Metadata Services team to develop
strategies for using collection data to shape and support data driven
collection decisions for electronic resource collections.

·         Works with vendors to troubleshoot access problems and maintain
currency with vendors' updated technologies and systems.

·         Identifies, evaluates, and stays current with emerging trends,
resources, practices and standards in electronic resource management, usage
statistics, data management, access and discovery to enhance library
services for the Duquesne user community.

·         Chair the Electronic Resources Review Committee (ERRC) as well as
serve on the Library Assessment Committee.

·         Serves as liaison to designated academic department(s).

·         Serves the library and university through participation in
committees and task forces.

·         Meets the library's requirements for promotion, which includes a
commitment to research, professional development and service.

*REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:*

·         Master of Library Science (MLS or MLIS) degree from an
ALA-accredited institution.

·         Working knowledge of integrated library system(s) (such as
Innovative (III), link resolver software, electronic resource management
systems and discovery interfaces (such as Ebsco Discovery Services (EDS).

·         Some knowledge of cataloging standards

·         Ability to work in a technological and rapidly changing academic
library environment.

·         Ability to adapt to change; to plan, implement and assess
projects.

·         Ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment.

·         Strong customer service attitude, as well as a positive,
proactive approach to problem solving.

*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

·         Three years professional experience working in an academic
library.

·         Second Master's degree in an academic discipline, or advanced
coursework in librarianship or a discipline relevant to the position.

·         Working knowledge of digital tools, standards and initiatives,
such as ONIX, SUSHI, OpenURL, and COUNTER.

·         Knowledge of standard statistical packages (SPSS, SAS) and
proficiency with data manipulation and analysis, statistical methods, and
assessment of collections.

·         Experience with library standard tools for data collection
analysis such as LibInsight, GreenGlass, or ERM.

·         Experience working with e-resources in a consortium or shared
environment.

·         Knowledge of cataloging standards (such as RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LC
classification and MARC formats, metadata, BibFrame).
