TUBITAK ULAKBIM and JSTOR Announce National Agreement

JSTOR and the Turkish Academic Network and Information Center (TUBITAK ULAKBIM) have announced a historic 3-year national agreement. In this arrangement JSTOR will provide full access to 2,500+ journals and 2,100+ research reports on the JSTOR platform to 197 Turkish higher education and research institutions.

JSTOR collaborates with the academic community to help libraries provide students and faculty with access to vital scholarship. “Our mission to provide broad access to JSTOR is a collaborative effort,” said Laura Brown, JSTOR Managing Director. “We are thrilled to join together with consortia, government, and higher education institutions to help expand access to academic research at a national level.”

Mr. Mirat Satoglu, Director of TUBITAK ULAKBIM said, “TUBITAK ULAKBIM continues to provide EKUAL services to its members by strengthening its position in the field of social sciences. Within this context, TUBITAK ULAKBIM has licensed the JSTOR database and is providing full text access to more than 12 million academic journal articles in 75 disciplines. Universities have already expressed their appreciation and gratitude as they now enjoy full access to this comprehensive content in the social sciences.”

“JSTOR is one of the digital libraries that Turkish academic libraries gained access to in the early 2000’s,” said Mrs. Tuba Akbayturk, President of ANKOS Consortium and Library Director of Koc University. “Over the years, JSTOR has preserved its first place among other databases licensed by ANKOS based on usage and the size of community. I am confident that this expansion will stimulate research in Turkey and will qualitatively and quantitatively impact scientific output in the county.”

TUBITAK ULAKBIM EKUAL institutions join 11,000 institutions from 176 countries that participate in JSTOR. Consortia across the globe currently partner with JSTOR to provide access to academic research. The JSTOR digital library now contains 12 million articles in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences from a diverse group of 1,200 publishers from 57 countries.
