Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan Librarian

 

Auburn University Libraries invites applications for a Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan Librarian, a twelve-month tenure-track position. As member of the Association of Research Libraries, Auburn University Libraries houses a collection of more than three million volumes and operates with a materials budget of $7.4 million. SUMMARY OF POSITION: Auburn University Libraries seeks a creative, enthusiastic, and mission oriented individual to serve as Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan Librarian, reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services/Head of Reference and Instruction Services in the University Libraries. This twelve-month tenure-track position requires professional and scholarly activity as well as service on library and university committees.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing leadership in planning, budgeting, developing and implementing document delivery/interlibrary loan services
  • Researching, recommending and implementing technological developments related to information delivery
  • Participating in regional, national and international resource sharing communities
  • Providing leadership and consulting on copyright, especially as it relates to document delivery/interlibrary loan services
  • Analyzing campus delivery trends and services
  • Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating document delivery/interlibrary loan staff

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program

·         A minimum of two years of experience providing interlibrary loan, document delivery, and consortial borrowing services

·         A minimum of two years supervisory experience

·         Demonstrated experience using technology to communicate and manage online content

·         Evidence of flexibility and creativity in responding to rapidly changing technologies and user needs

·         Strong commitment to excellence in public service; willingness to engage in continuous learning in order to meet the changing needs of library users

·         Excellent interpersonal skills; strong and effective written communication skills

·         Ability to work independently; evidence of ability to initiate and carry projects through

to completion

·         Demonstrated ability to contribute collegially and productively in a team environment

·         Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace

·         Ability to adapt emerging technologies to enhance user services in a collaborative, busy, and evolving public services unit

·         Potential to meet university promotion and tenure requirements for library faculty

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of progressively more responsible experience providing interlibrary loan and document delivery services in an academic setting, preferably in a large university or research institution
  • Experience using interlibrary loan processing tools such as ILLiad, OCLC Worldcat Resource Sharing, Voyager, Rapid ILL, Tipasa, and IDS
  • Experience managing staff and workflows in a complex library operation
  • Excellent knowledge of local, regional, and national issues relating to interlibrary loan and document delivery
  • Excellent knowledge of copyright, privacy, and other legal and policy issues relating to interlibrary loan and document delivery
  • Experience working with regional and/or national ILL groups

 

 

SALARY/BENEFITS: Minimum salary of $54,025 for a Librarian II, higher with experience, or appointment as a Librarian III. Rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. This is a twelve month tenure-track position.  Benefits include 20 days vacation leave/12 days sick leave per year; participation in State Teachers’ Retirement System (mandatory); additional voluntary retirement plans available; health/dental/life/disability insurance.
