From: Dung-Lan Chen <[log in to unmask]> Date: Wed, 24 Jul 2019 18:07:04 +0000 (Apologies for cross posting!) Skidmore College, a small liberal arts college situated in the foothills of the Adirondacks in upstate New York, seeks a creative, user-oriented Metadata Librarian to provide strategic and innovative leadership for metadata services. The Metadata Librarian will play a critical role in supporting discovery, access, management, and preservation of Scribner Library’s physical, digital, and electronic resources. This person will partner with colleagues in other service areas within the library – Acquisitions, Resource Management, Systems, Public Services, Digital and Special Collections – and will serve as a forward-thinking leader on matters of resource description and metadata creation/management. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of how metadata creation supports research assistance and instruction, and will be responsive to the information needs of the entire academic community. Based in Lucy Scribner Library’s Bibliographic Services Department and reporting to the College Librarian, the Metadata Librarian holds an 11-month contract and, as a non-tenured faculty member, participates in shared governance at the College. Skidmore College has a strong institutional commitment to inclusive excellence. We are particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented backgrounds, as well as candidates who have had experience working with students from underserved populations. Scribner Library is looking for someone attuned to new technologies and able to participate in the administration of a comprehensive technology plan that guides the library’s adoption of next generation library systems. Projects on the horizon include transitioning to a new library services platform, making our digital collections more accessible, improving our library website, and improving or replacing our discovery services. The Metadata Librarian will demonstrate a willingness to train and mentor cataloging staff through changes in library technology, and advocate effectively for the needs of the team. This person will serve as a member of Scribner Library’s project teams that require metadata expertise, and will apply that expertise to the Library’s collections and their future development.
