The October issue of *Learned Publishing* is now online

How can publishers support early career journal editors? The October issue
begins with an editorial focusing on how publishers can help ECR journal
editors find a balance between their academic workload and journal
editorial responsibility. Written by the ALPSP Early Careers Editor, Megan
Ainsworth, the editorial provides insights from senior academics and ECRs
working in the Humanities and Social Sciences – do you think scholarly
publishers are doing enough to support ECRs as journal editors?

The issue also includes authors’ perspectives on publishing in predatory
open access journals, the views of North American journal editors on text
recycling and practical approaches for converting journals to open access
through Subscribe to Open. A great selection of topics touching on current
‘big questions’ in the scholarly publishing community!

   - Text recycling: Views from an interview‐based study’ presents results
   from an interview‐based study of 21 North American journal editors, from a
   broad range of academic disciplines, which investigates how editors view
   the contentious practice of recycling journal articles.
   - In Maximizing dissemination and engaging readers, Toby Green argues
   that article promotion and visibility “should be the other 50% of what
   authors do.”
   - The harsh world of publishing in emerging regions and implications for
   editors and publishers tackles the pressures for Vietnamese researchers to
   publish in high-impact international journals.
   - Misrepresentation of institutional affiliations is the focus of an
   original case study of Chilean authors and implications for universities,
   publishers, and policy makers.
