I’d like to call special attention to the press release below about Demography, the leading journal in the field of population studies, moving to a platinum open-access model through Duke University Press beginning in 2021. Demography is the journal of the Population Association of America and has been published previously through Springer Nature.

We are asking for support from libraries and population research centers to sustain Demography and are partnering with LYRASIS to facilitate contributions. Usage data indicate that the journal is heavily and broadly used across academic institutions of all types and sizes; it is the most-cited journal in its field.

The description of Demography convinced us that this journal needs to be published open access to support the wide dissemination of knowledge on some of the key issues of our time. Demography presents “the highest quality original research of scholars in a broad range of disciplines, including anthropology, biology, economics, geography, history, psychology, public health, sociology, and statistics. The journal encompasses a wide variety of methodological approaches to population research. Its geographic focus is global, with articles addressing demographic matters from around the planet. Its temporal scope is broad, as represented by research that explores demographic phenomena spanning the ages from past to present, and reaching toward the future.”
