Hello everyone,

UKRI, in partnership with the Association of Learned Society Publishers (ALPSP), the British Academy, and the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), has commissioned a project from Information Power. The project is to support book publishers in their transition to sustainable open access models, with a particular focus on learned society, subject association, and smaller specialist publishers. As part of this project, we’ve been asked to produce a report and evolve existing toolkits to support publishers who are experimenting with or embracing open access models. https://www.informationpower.co.uk/open-access-transitions-for-book-publishers-spa-ops-4-0/

A strong, clear theme already emerging is that more information is needed about library workflows, good ONIX metadata practice, and ensuring OA books appear in, and are discoverable through, the book supply chain. It is especially important when a book or chapter is opened retrospectively, and changes are needed deeper in the supply chain because even when publishers supply fresh metadata this is not always picked up and transmitted downstream. It is terrific that Ronald Snijder is a member of the project team as DOAB and OAPEN have a crucial role to play in this space.

The project team is keen to engage with libraries and funders as well as publishers, so if you would like to get involved please drop a line to [log in to unmask].

Many thanks and with best wishes,

Alicia
