Nearly 20 Hindawi journals delisted from leading index amid concerns of
papermill activity
Nineteen journals from the open-access publisher Hindawi were removed from
Clarivate’s Web of Science Monday when the indexer refreshed its Master
Journal List.

The delistings follow a disclosure by Wiley, which bought Hindawi in 2021,
that the company suspended publishing special issues

Hi all,

My son is studying Political Science and has a 1950’s book of Karl Marx
Selected works. The flyleaf has a pasted on section saying ‘London Lawrence
and Wishart 1947’. If he shines a light behind it he can see the writing
originally printed underneath the patch which says "Foreign Languages
Publishing House", "Moscow 1946", and the logo for the foreign languages
publishing house.

Multiple listmembers contacted me in response to my query of 5 May, some
sharing their experiences and some expressing interest in the responses I
would receive.

The tl;dr version is this: there have been some (gratefully not many)
disturbing and distressing examples of libraries being deliberately
targeted for occupation, disruption, and/or damage by protesters. In most
cases, libraries have been affected indirectly, in the same way(s) as other
campus buildings.

providing valuable insight into the motivations and experiences of peer
reviewers around the globe.

Headline findings include:

- 30% of reviewers from high-income countries indicated that they

Our university just approved a new program of designating "affiliate
faculty", which does not come with any compensation or basically any
benefits except being able to say you are an affiliate faculty with us, and

There hasn’t been a ton of reporting on this, but I’ve seen some scattered
evidence of protestors (I don’t know for which side) occupying and damaging
libraries on university campuses. I saw photos of the inside of the library
at Portland State that showed what looked like pretty extensive damage and
vandalism, and I’ve seen video footage of students blocking other students
from entering the library at UCLA. I’d be very interested to know how
widespread this has been – it seems like something we should be talking
about.

has signed a nationwide contract with the publisher Elsevier, as part of
the negotiations conducted by the French Couperin consortium of higher

and research establishments in France with an open access publication
service at no extra cost to authors in the majority of Elsevier's hybrid or

my paper.

SPARC Europe leads looks at understanding how institutional publishing is
sustained today. Institutional publishers and service providers are diverse
due to their missions, size and service provision. In addition, there is no

characteristics influence the sustainability options available to them and

the copyright notices on their websites to state they reserve rights to
text and data mining (TDM) and AI training (for example, see the website

among libraries and researchers as TDM and AI-based analysis become an

copies of their thesis on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other sites. The
thesis is freely available on our institutional repository, but under
copyright with all rights reserved.

There's no publisher or seller information on any of the listings, but I
looked up the ISBN number and it's registered to a company with the same

There’s been concern for some time about language attached to federal
appropriations bills that would contradict the 2022 Nelson memo from OSTP
and ban spending federal dollars on OSTP-mandated open access and open
science. In the present draft, the ban was stripped away in the back
rooms. Thus, it would appear that the bill, without the ban, will likely
pass by March 8th as part of federal budget stop-gapping.
