DE GRUYTER

Press Release

*De Gruyter expands, commits to US growth*

*Publisher increases staff to better serve authors, partners and customers*

Berlin, XX September 2019

De Gruyter, an independent international academic publisher with roots in
Germany, has significantly increased its presence in the United States by
growing its office in Boston by 30 percent. The 16 colleagues in De
Gruyter’s Boston office and 14 colleagues in the rest of the country serve
authors and librarians in the United States, Canada and Central and South
America.

An increase in qualified and enthusiastic staff was also necessary to
continue growing the successful partnerships that have shaped De Gruyter’s
North American activities for more than five years. Various partnerships
and pilot projects with university presses, smaller publishers and academic
institutions continue to increase recognition for De Gruyter in the US
while partners benefit from De Gruyter’s international expertise.

“We are confident that Michael Zeoli and Steven Sutton, two experienced and
energetic sales professionals who have recently joined us, will lead the
push to closer and better relationships to our customers,” said David
Celano, Sales Director Americas for De Gruyter.

Michael Zeoli, Sales Manager, with 15 years of experience in both sales and
monograph acquisitions for a university library, has recently joined De
Gruyter from GOBI/EBSCO, where he oversaw publisher relations and
partnerships. Steven Sutton, Sales Manager, also joins from EBSCO with more
than 20 years of sales experience in scholarly publishing.

In addition to the development of the sales team, there has also been
growth in the marketing, editorial, and partner program teams to ensure
better service for De Gruyter’s authors in the region.

“Although we have had a stable presence in the United States since 1971,
our future plans are ambitious, and required additional, significant
investment over the entire scope of our activities in the Americas. All of
us at De Gruyter – not just in the Boston office – are convinced that our
approach, which is led by the values of partnership, openness, courage and
competence, will allow us to better serve our stakeholders,” said Steve
Fallon, Vice President Americas and Strategic Partnerships.
